Mission Raniganj Movie Review – Akshay Kumar’s Heroic Efforts Overshadow the Real Heroes

Mission Raniganj The Great Bharat Rescue is a movie based on the true story of Jasbant Singh Gill, an engineer who played a major role in saving miners trapped in a coal mine disaster in 1989. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role. Although it tells an inspiring story of bravery, it focuses too much on the main character, leaving the sacrifice of the miners in the background.

Mission Raniganj Movie Review

Honest acting by Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar, known for playing simple and optimistic characters, does a good job as Jaswant Singh Gill. He believably portrays the earnest Gill, nicknamed Capsule Gill because of his daring rescue mission. Kumar connects with the audience, as he usually does in such roles. However, his role takes most of the attention of the movie and other important parts of the story are left out.

The role of government companies misses the highlight

Mission Raniganj unintentionally shows how government companies were important in the lives of regular people. Gill’s interaction with the trapped miners through a borehole symbolizes the understanding that exists between government companies and their employees. Although the movie briefly touches on the arguments between miners and management, it does not explore these issues in depth. In the end, it still feels like an Akshay Kumar movie, even though the director tries to make it look like a team effort.

Lack of details about mining and security

The film does not provide enough detail about mining and security measures. The way mining is shown is original, and the style of the film reminds you of the old days. This could have been an opportunity to highlight the hardships and dangers of mining in the late 1980s, but the movie doesn’t.

Stereotypes and missed opportunities

“Mission Raniganj” uses clichéd stereotypes, such as depicting Bengalis as resistance to the North Indian hero. It simplifies the situation and doesn’t show the complexity of what actually happened. Surprisingly, the film does not even talk about the safety issues in the mines or how the trade unions affected the mining, which were important parts of the actual incident.

A great supporting cast

One of the strengths of the film is its strong supporting cast with talented actors like Sudhir Pandey, Jamil Khan, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra, Divyandu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Sharma, Arif Zakaria, and Virendra Saxena. They bring emotion and depth to their roles, making the movie more emotional. However, they are mostly there to support Akshay Kumar’s character and don’t get their own story.

Tribute to unsung heroes

Despite its problems, “Mission Raniganj” is a tribute to the unsung heroes of the Raniganj mine disaster. It shows the brave miners who sacrificed themselves and the daring rescue mission led by Jaswant Singh Gill. Although it does not tell the whole story, it gives a glimpse of a major event in Indian history.

Conclusion

“Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue” is a movie that talks about an extraordinary rescue mission but focuses heavily on one character. Akshay Kumar’s good acting and strong supporting cast make it better, but it still doesn’t capture the full complexity and depth of the real story. However, for those who love stories of bravery and adventure, “Mission Raniganj” shows the indomitable spirit of people who persevere through difficult times.
