Trade-in programs are solutions for manufacturers to pay you a small, but quick payment for your old mobile phone so that you can renew it without overcomplicating your mind. In most cases, they don’t accept old cell phones, paying much less than a decent amount if your cell phone has a broken screen or significant cosmetic damage.
Google presented the Pixel 8a yesterday, and as a promotion in the first two months of sales they launched a rather unusual trade-in program: the most beneficiaries will be users of old mobile phones, so Google will pay the same as the high price. – End 2023.
It’s a practically mandatory move to boost sales of a phone whose main competitor is at home: the Google Pixel 8 costs 599 euros at stores like MediaMarkt, and the Pixel 8a at 549 euros isn’t the sweetest price to launch. Things change with the offers: it’s easy to buy for just 300 euros
Google Pixel 8a. In case you missed it yesterday, the Pixel 8a is basically a Pixel 8 with faster charging, a smaller camera sensor than its big brother, and a smaller panel. Aspects like the build quality of the materials also change (it’s finished in plastic and not glass), and the front bezels are much more noticeable than those seen on the Pixel 8.
Save for these inevitable differences, this is a device with the same processor as its big brother, the same year of system updates (seven), the same software functions as the Pixel 8 and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits on its screen, a differential point within your price range.
Clashes with the Pixel 8. The Pixel 8 is a device that went on the market for 799 euros but, today it costs 200 euros less. It’s easy to find at stores like Amazon or MediaMartk for 599 euros, a steep price considering it’s still a high-end Google product.
The main problem is that the Pixel 8a was released with a fairly high RRP: 549 euros. Only a 50 euro difference with the Pixel 8 which outperforms it in everything described above. Google is aware of this and indeed, they told us that “the Pixel 8 is a very good offer at €599.”
Google Trade In. To boost sales in the first two months of launch, they introduced a rather strange trade-in program. In which they add up to 150 euros to the price of your phone. Why is it strange? Because Google pays the same for Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 as OnePlus 11.
The statistics are a bit crazy, we leave you with some examples of what Google offers for different devices.
- OnePlus 11: 198 euros
- OnePlus 6: 218 euros
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: 362 euros
- Samsung Galaxy A10S: 183 euros
- iPhone 8: 212 euros
- iPhone 12 Pro Max: 410 euros
- Google Pixel 7a: 297 euros
- Google Pixel 6a: 259 euros
- Wiko Y81: 177 euros
- ZTE Blade A 452: 173 euros
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 11: 198 euros
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9: 201 euros
No, there is no error in the list. Google pays more for one Redmi Note 9 than a Redmi Note 11. And you pay the same for the Redmi Note 11 as the OnePlus 6. You also pay 362 euros for the Z Fold 4 (a mobile phone worth more than 1,500 euros) and 410 euros for the iPhone 12 Pro. Max, the mobile is much cheaper at RRP.
In short, if you have an old mobile phone, you can get a much higher resale value than on a second-hand website. For example, a Redmi 9A, a device sold on Wallpop for between 40 and 50 euros, Google pays around 200 euros. You will renew the Pixel 8a for only 349 euros.
